The Present and Future Use of SSDs and IBM i

Chris Smith of MC Press Online has a nice article today that discusses how people are using Solid State Drives (SSDs) right now (think caching) and when and where this technology might start to edge out hard disk drives from an IBM i perspective.

What’s nice is that it features Mark Olson, an IBM Power Systems World Wide Product Manager, and Don Chouinard, Nexsan Director of Product Marketing to discuss SSDs on IBM i. And these two guys should know what they’re talking about.

While I’m not sure SSDs are going to be able to replace HDDs today (especially since some of the IBM i controllers can only manage four SSD drives), there is a lot of hope for the future. You can read Chris’s article here.
