LinkedIn Stops Posting Tweets as Activity Updates

LinkedIn sent an email message out tonight saying:

Twitter recently evolved its strategy and this will result in a change to the way Tweets appear in all third-party applications. As of June 29, 2012, Tweets will no longer be displayed on LinkedIn.

What this means is that LinkedIn will no longer be monitoring your Twitter account and posting any tweets with the #IN or #LI hashtags to your LinkedIn activity feed. However, LinkedIn will be able to tweet LinkedIn activity updates to Twitter when you check the box with the Twitter icon and click “Share” off the LinkedIn Post an update box.

The result is that LinkedIn-to-Twitter synchronization will only run one way from now on: LinkedIn status updates can be posted as tweets but Twitter tweets with the #IN or #LI hashtags will no longer be automatically posted as LinkedIn status updates.

At least that’s the way I’m reading LinkedIn’s announcement on this topic. If I’m wrong on this or if anyone has any additional information on this they would like to share, please email me or post a comment on this article.

So please be aware of this change and act accordingly.
