Doing the math on a Power7 upgrade

Wondering what the monetary case IBM is selling for getting you to upgrade old PowerPC, Power4, Power5, and Power6 machines to Big Blue’s new Power 7 machines?

Tim Prickett Morgan has an interesting article on IBM Power 7 upgrade math. He looks at what IBM thinks you’re going to gain by upgrading to a Power 7 versus standing pat on your existing machine (besides the obvious performance gain, which is incredible). Read it on the IT Jungle Web site here.

At the companies I work for, I’ve been through four sizable Power i upgrades in the last few years. So feel free to email me at [email protected] if you want to compare notes or are looking for another perspective.
