From the Admin Alert Archives: Speeding up i5/OS Access Path Rebuilds

I’ve been writing Admin Alert columns on IBM i administration for the IT Jungle Web site since 2002 (thanks, TPM). I figure there must be close to 500 of them by now, and I’m still producing them several times a month.

IT Jungle keeps the collected articles on the Admin Alert Web page. Every once in a while, I like to spotlight a prior article that still has relevance to the modern IBM i shop.

Here’s a piece from 2010 where I helped a reader with a problem where after a file reorganization, his production Web site jobs wouldn’t restart until all the access paths attached to a critical file were rebuilt. This article demonstrates an easy technique for speeding up access path rebuilds when you need to restart critical processing on your system.

You can read this article by clicking here. This article was written for i5/OS V5R4 but it’s also relevant for i 6.1. I’ve never tried it with the i 7.1 operating system.

Peace.
