Alex Woodie has a nice piece in IT Jungle about the early July European Union court ruling that opened the door for customers to resell vendor software.
While this ruling doesn’t have any effect in the US, Alex looks at the history of software transfers in the IBM i marketplace; how we had them at one point and how we lost them; how vendors (including IBM) will probably try to make up for any loss of exclusive distribution rights; and how the whole point could become moot in a cloud-based world.
Nice insightful piece by Alex. You can read the whole thing by clicking here.
