IT Jungle: Saying Goodbye to an Old Power i

royalty free moving truckIT Jungle just posted my latest article covering the steps to take when returning a Power i system (Power systems hardware running the IBM i operating system) to a leasing company. I cover the following steps to take when ending a lease and returning equipment.

  1. Replacing the equipment
  2. Ending the lease
  3. Ending extended maintenance (if relevant)
  4. Inventorying the machine
  5. Wiping or dealing with the disk
  6. Wrapping the machine up
  7. Saying goodbye

As an add-on, I also posted another article that expands on why and how you should inventory your old Power i machines before sending them back to the leasing company: What Happens to the Giving IBM i When You Terminate a Lease?. That article tells the story of the Giving IBM i where an old client of mine got very creative in merging his two leased Power i machines to minimize upgrades to his leased machines.

The Saying Goodbye article is currently posted on IT Jungle, if you’re interested in reading it.
